Phenolic Modified Primer Corrosive Resistant Product Profile
DESCRIPTION: Modified Phenolic Alkyd is a quick drying universal industrial primer, lead and cromate free. It is formulated for application to fabricated metal and steel parts and equipment. This primer can be top-coated with a variety of products including alkyds, urethanes and epoxies. Formulated with corrosive resistant pigments to weathering for a period of up to 6 months before enclosure or topcoating. TYPICAL USE: These products are recommended for use on properly prepared ferrous metal surfaces. This primer is the product of choice fro priming structural steel, machinery, safety equipment and fences in commercial, industrial and institutional applications. These products are not recommended for galvanized or aluminum surfaces. Products are intended for industrial use. SURFACE PREPARATION: The surface should be dry and free of any dirt, chalk, loose or peeling paint, grease, mildew, oil, rust, or other foreign contaminants. Minimum surface preparation for iron and steel surfaces is Hand Tool Cleaning per SSPC-SP2. Glossy alkyd enamel surfaces should be sanded and dusted prior to application of this primer. High performance coatings should be sandblasted or hand tool cleaned prior to application. If you have any questions about proper surface preparation consult Robinson Chemical Coatings, Inc. COLORS: Red, gray and specific colors on request SOLIDS: 65% weight by volume THEORETICAL APPLICATION RATE: 350 square feet per gallon at 2.0 mil dry film thickness. Coverage figures do not include loss of material while mixing, porosity or irregularity of the surface to be painted or application methods. RECOMMENDED FILM THICKNESS: 2 – 2.5 mils dry VOC: 3.7 lbs. Per gallon DRY TIME: At 77 degrees F and 50% relative humidity: Fifteen to Twenty minute to dust, dirt and bug free, 30 minutes to tack free, and one to two hours to recoat. APPLICATION PRECAUTIONS: Do not paint if the atmospheric temperature or the substrate temperature is below 45 degrees F or above 90 degrees F. Do not paint late in the day when dew or condensation is likely to form or when rain is threatening. If topcoating with a finish coat that contains strong solvents such as Xylene, it is best to test for lifting before spraying a large area. APPLICATION EQUIPMENT: Conventional or airless spray, bristle brush or lambskin roller cover. THINNING: Thinning is not recommended. CLEAN-UP: Xylene or Lacquer Thinner SHIPPING & STORAGE PACKAGING: 5 Gallon Pails and 55 gallon drums. WEIGHT/GALLON: 10.5 +/- 0.1 Pounds STORAGE TEMPERATURE: Minimum 35 degrees F.
